About NSCCC
The national steering committee for the coronation and centenary celebrations (NSCCC) is the body specifically instituted by the government to steer these important celebrations.
2008 is an unparallel year for Bhutan. It will celebrate three momentous events, each one with historic distinction.
His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck will be formally enthroned as the Fifth Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan. The installation of the Fifth Druk Gyalpo on the golden throne will fulfil the wishes of the people in having an enlightened monarch at the helm. It will ensure continuity of the farsighted wisdom and leadership the Wangchuck Kings have come to epitomise, to guide Bhutan and her people toward greater heights.
Bhutan will also celebrate 100 years as a unified nation with the institution of the Wangchuck dynasty in 1907. It is an occasion to pay tribute to all our Kings who have been the fountainhead of unprecedented peace, prosperity and happiness the people of Bhutan continue to enjoy. It is also an occasion to thank our fellow citizens both past and present for the part they have played in shaping a promising nation of ours. It is also an opportunity to rededicate ourselves in solidarity to the King, the Nation and to our fellow Bhutanese to collectively work to advance the nation even further.
Bhutan will also usher in new system of parliamentary democratic government in 2008 under a written constitution, bestowed upon His people by the Fourth King, His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck. It will celebrate this graciousness of a Monarch who has put the country and its people ahead of himself which has no precedence in history.
The National Steering Committee for the Coronation and Centenary Celebrations would like to wish all our fellow Bhutanese and everyone wonderful Celebrations and a Happy Earth Male Rat Year (2008).
